Message to AMCHAM Myanmar Members from President Khin Maung Win
March 24, 2020
On March 18, AMCHAM Myanmar announced that we would suspend external events until further notice following the World Health Organizations (WHO) decision to elevate the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak to a global pandemic and the urging of the Myanmar Government to limit large-scale events. We took this preventative measure to ensure we are doing our part to protect our members, our staff, and our community. We continue to follow recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (U.S. CDC) and the WHO to prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19.We must continue doing everything we can to ensure that we are taking the necessary precautions to prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19. Effective Monday, March 23, the physical AMCHAM office, located in Sule Square, is temporarily closed. All AMCHAM Myanmar staff are working remotely during business hours. AMCHAM Myanmar staff are taking this time to make AMCHAM Myanmar a functional virtual and smart office so that in the future we can deliver the best value to our members. On March 30, our AMCHAM team will also deliver a brand-new website that will enhance your experience with AMCHAM Myanmar.AMCHAM Myanmar committees continue meeting using virtual means so we can keep working toward our shared objectives as a Chamber. AMCHAM is committed to facilitating this important work. We will continue to work closely with the U.S. government and the Myanmar government, in particular, with the newly formed Working Committee for Recovery on the Economic Impact of COVID-19 (unofficial translation), chaired by U Thaung Tun, on identifying and implementing helpful policies going forward. We want to work with you, our members, to ensure that we promote the prosperity of the American business community. We want to urge all AMCHAM Myanmar members to take part in the COVID-19 Survey that AMCHAM has produced so we can engage in better advocacy efforts. We encourage all U.S. citizens in Myanmar to register for STEP, the State Departments Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to receive alerts and easily get access to U.S. citizen services in the event of an emergency. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has updates available on travel restrictions for those traveling to the U.S. We encourage you to contact those sources for more information related to U.S. travel policies. We will communicate to our members when the physical AMCHAM Myanmar office opens. In the meantime, we look forward to staying in touch online. You can reach AMCHAM Myanmar anytime atservice@amchammyanmar.com.
