2017 AMCHAM CSR Excellence Recognition & Thanksgiving Dinner
November 22, 2017
The American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (AMCHAM Myanmar) honored its members corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs at a ceremony held in conjunction with the American Thanksgiving at the Sule Shangri-la Hotel Yangon. The event was presided over by the U.S. Embassy's Deputy Chief of Mission, George Sibley. This is the third annual AMCHAM CSR Excellence (ACE) Awards ceremony which this year recognized 18 companies for their sustainable and meritorious CSR programs in Myanmar. AMCHAM Myanmar is committed to promoting a responsible business community among its member companies, as well as encourage them to uphold the highest business standards while operating in accordance with the Chambers Universal Business Principles.
Mr. Sibley congratulated the ACE Award winners and said: ' These companies have earned praise for their model behavior. American companies go abroad in search of a return for their shareholders and there is nothing wrong with that; it fact, it is their primary purpose. Yet let us remember what they bring when they come to Myanmar. They bring jobs, they pay taxes, they transfer technology, and they grow the economy. They also raise labor standards and model transparency and good governance. And on top of all of that, the companies we honor have chosen to give back even more to the health, education and environment of the communities that host them.
AMCHAM Myanmar President Rehan Khan, General Manager of Coca-Cola Myanmar, said: We are delighted to see the number of ACE Award recipients increase each year. This year, out of the 18 total recipients, 8 companies were awarded silver level recognition for being a three-year ACE Award recipient. Regardless of the company size, whether large or small, our members are committed to giving back to the community and, as a Chamber, we are very proud of these positive contributions by the U.S. business community to Myanmars development.
