Founded in 2016 in Yangon, Thalun International School is a private college preparatory school for PK to G12 students. The language of instruction is English, and the school follows a US standards-based curriculum guided by American Education Reaches Out (AERO). The academic program is complemented by visual and performing arts, sport, and a variety of co-curricular activities. In grades 10 to 12 students may elect to take Advanced Placement classes to support them in applying to colleges and universities around the world. The school was founded by a group of investors who envisioned an affordable, high-quality college preparatory school in Yangon. The school operates on a 180-day calendar, divided into quarters and semesters. The first quarter begins in early August and the fourth quarter concludes in early June. School operates on a 5-day schedule with 45-minute blocks in elementary and an A/B day schedule with 80-minute blocks in secondary.The name of the school is derived from King Thalun, one of the kings of the Taungoo Dynasty, who ruled in the 16th century and was known for his disciplined approach and improving the lives of his people. The name perfectly captures our philosophy of empowering our students to be tomorrow’s well-balanced leaders as they grow and develop.
