Nguyen Hong Son started his career 30 years ago and had worked for several well-known multinational companies, whose businesses vary from professional services to manufacturing and financial services, to build and expand their investments in Vietnam. In most of the companies he worked for, he was among the first group of employees hired to setup and grow the business from greenfield. In 2005, Mr. Nguyen joined Chubb Life Vietnam as its first CFO. Since, he worked his way up to become the company’s Deputy Country President and had served it at that position for 10 years before being assigned to Myanmar in June 2019. Landed in Myanmar as Chubb Life Insurance Myanmar’s Country President & CEO, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son’s mission is to grow the business by increasing Myanmar’s people awareness about the value of life insurance and how Chubb Life can help; and to develop his Myanmar team members to become the business leaders so that they could manage the business by themselves. A native of Vietnam, Nguyen Hong Son grew up in Vietnam where he obtained his BA degree in Finance. He also holds an MBA degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (USA), AICPA as well as CPA Australia and CPA Vietnam. Christopher Loh (speaker)Christopher Loh is the MD & CEO of uab bank since September 2017. Prior to joining uab bank, he held several senior executive positions including the Group Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Executive of International Business and Deputy Group Chief Risk Officer at RHB Banking Group. He was also a partner and managing director with Accenture, a global management consulting firm where he worked with regional and global financial institutions across Asia-Pacific, United States and the United Kingdom to transform their business and risk capabilities. After his stint with a leading UK banking group in London, he returned to Asia to help build and lead a very successful risk management practice where he was the managing director before his departure. He has also spent several years with a leading insurer in Singapore, and had established and run a technology and media start up. Guided by his strong vision in Leading Change and Humanising Banking, he has driven uab bank to become one of the top banks in Myanmar. uab bank was named Myanmar’s Best Bank in 2019 by Euromoney and Domestic Retail Bank of The Year 2019 by Asian Banking & Finance. Further, he spearheaded the rebranding of the bank, completely overhauling the brand identity, purpose and the move to an award winning new head office – uab Tower @ Times City, one of the most prestigious address in the heart of Yangon.He has also been recognised and named as Myanmar’s Best Banking CEO by many international platforms, e.g. Global Banking & Finance, International Business Magazine and Business Worldwide. Michael Armstrong (speaker)Michael Armstrong specialises in enterprise risk management including system design, leadership capacity building, and implementation through immersive crisis simulation exercises—building collective resilience in commercial and public organisations alike. Over the last 15 years Michael has consulted to a wide range of finance, resource and other sector firms and consulted to government on key policy initiatives. His key skill is in mapping the business model and strategic aspirations of any firm in any sector and identifying the potential strategic business interruptions and opportunities. He then designs and implements crisis response and business continuity arrangements locked in through a carefully sequenced series of preparatory training activities and fully immersive simulation exercises. These arrangements are integrated with clients’ corporate governance and supported by deliberate and focussed competitive intelligence systems. His leadership development programmes have produced second to none results with their simple yet powerfully effective approaches to the practicalities of planning and leading teams through adversity. Clients have included finance and resource sector sector firms, industrial clients and public sector agencies and NGOs such as Yoma Bank, Moore Stephens, JP Morgan Chase, Prudential, Shell, BOC, OilSearch, Sydney Airports Corporation, Hanson, the Australian National Blood Authority, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the US Army Corps of Engineers and Adam Smith International. Prior to his commercial career, Michael served 20 years in the Australian Army in senior operational, training and command appointments. Selected for service in Australia’s elite Special Air Service Regiment early in his military career, Michael served 15 years as a counter terrorism operations officer in Special Operations Command, providing hostage rescue advice to State and Commonwealth government and police, and to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has led contingency planning for Australia’s overseas embassies, including reorienting the Australian Embassy Jakarta’s posture in the wake of 9/11. Later when based in an undisclosed location in the Middle East, Michael worked with coalition Special Operations Forces as the lead Australian planner for hostage rescue across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Michael is a graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon and the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He also holds qualifications in counter terrorism from the University of St Andrews and in security, risk and training design, implementation and evaluation recognised through the Australian Quality Framework. He has lived in Yangon, Myanmar since 2014 with his wife and young son. His interests include 20th Century history, human cognitive theory and the effect of and responses to fat tail risk events.   Ma Cherry Trivedi (moderator)Ma Cherry Trivedi is the Founder and Managing Director of Ayuroma Advisory International which is an Investments and Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory company focused on Myanmar Family Conglomerates and Start-up development across multiple sectors. She is also the Founder and General Partner of Nawarat Investments, focused on Agri and education start-ups in Myanmar. Ayuroma Portfolio companies includes Infrastructure, Agriculture, Manufacturing Industries, FMCG, Education and Hospitality/Real-Estate. Ayuroma has successfully executed debt and equity deals with local and international banks along with syndicated facilities with Development Finance Institutes such as IFC, an investment arm of World Bank. Ma Cherry has more than 22 years’ experience in Corporate Mergers & Acquisition and Operational Restructuring of Companies as well as multiple Startup developments in US and Myanmar. Ma Cherry is a passionate Women Development Advocate and a strong proponent of Corporate Governance in Myanmar. She currently serves as chairwomen of Women Corporate Directors Chapter in Myanmar, and as a Governor on the Board of The American Chamber of Commerce, Myanmar. As of December 2018, she has been appointed as Executive Board Member and CEO of Myanmar Institute of Director. This is a newly established, independent organization promoting corporate governance standards and best practices in Myanmar governed by a board of directors comprising of government regulators, public and private sector representatives. The institute aims to advance board professionalism, promote business ethics and transparency, create networks between corporate leaders and stakeholders, and boost investor confidence in Myanmar’s private sector. Ma Cherry Holds an MBA and a BA, from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois, USA.  She is fluent in English, Burmese and Hindi Languages. She is a Myanmar born, US citizen with a Singapore and Myanmar Permanent Residency Permit. She splits her time between Myanmar and Singapore where she resides with her husband and two children.
