Before moving to Myanmar to head the tax and regulatory practice, Thomas has had extensive experience in advising multinational clients from various sectors on tax advisory, compliance and regulatory matters. In particular, Thomas spent time serving clients in Indonesia, Australia, Singapore. Thomas was one of the first to serve clients on-site in Myanmar, where he has put his experience to good use in assisting clients to deal with the practical issues with inbound and outbound investments, group restructurings including as part of an M&A process. Amongst others, Thomas’ major projects on advising multinational enterprises and local businesses involved MIC and SEZ investments, significant investments by multinationals into Myanmar. His clients are involved in a broad range of industries including banking, insurance, consumer goods, wholesale, agriculture, shipping, oil and gas, mining. William D. Greenlee Jr. is a Partner and Myanmar Managing Director of DFDL. William’s practice focuses on M&A, corporate, banking, project finance and securities. He has extensive experience with international companies investing into Myanmar and Southeast Asia. Such investments include all sectors including power, infrastructure, oil and gas, banking (including fintech), manufacturing, education, and telecommunications. He has advised on Myingyan, the first internationally tendered power project in Myanmar. He is involved in negotiating, structuring, documenting and managing large transactions for private equity and opportunity-fund companies and other international companies throughout Asia. As well as running the DFDL Myanmar offices, William co-heads the firm’s regional China Desk, which acts as a hub for Chinese investment into Myanmar, Southeast Asia and South Asia.
