In February this year, President U
Thein Sein announced the Myanmar Business Forum (MBF), which will be a platform
for ongoing dialogue between the private sector and government. The MBF will
enable the private sector to identify obstacles to growth and propose reforms
that improve the business environment. The MBF is being established between the
Government of Myanmar and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), with the support of the International Finance
Cooperation (World Bank Group).
As the MBF is designed to be inclusive and represent the business sector in
Myanmar, it will be made up of representatives from domestic as well as
locally-based foreign businesses. With the first round of MBF meetings
commencing soon, and the MBF secretariat is currently seeking interest in
participation from local and foreign business associations.
This meeting will provide further information on how the Myanmar Business Forum
will operate and how representatives from AMCHAM could be involved.
Second part of the meeting includes a Myanmar Legal Update by William Greenlee
of DFDL Myanmar. This will address new laws and other recent legal developments
in Myanmar.
