Project: USAID Responsible Investment and Trade Activity (Activity)
Reports to: Senior Private Sector Manager
Level of effort: Up to 65 days
Duration: on/about October 17, 2022 – September 30, 2023

Assignment Introduction

One of the Activity’s objectives is to “Increase fair and responsible trade and private sector investment in goods and services (between Myanmar, the US and other partner countries)’ (Objective 1) by ‘Increasing internal and international trade (Intermediate Result 1.2). To achieve this objective, the Activity will support targeted Myanmar SME’s, export capable and export ready companies market entry into new international markets.

When considering entering new international markets, exporters need to understand key information that feeds into their decision making, which can be obtain through informative guides, training and visiting the market the business is considering. To facilitate this support, the Activity will develop best practice Export Guide, Country Market Guide (Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and India and Tradeshow Participation Guide, as well as corresponding education training (PowerPoint deck) that expands on the best practice guides mentioned previously.

This role requires the consultant to a acquire an in-depth comprehension of all aspects of the after mentioned export guide, country market guides and tradeshow participation guide and the PowerPoint deck. After acquiring such understanding, the consultant will be responsible for delivering multiple live webinar training on each of the guides to SMEs, export capable and export ready for the purpose of preparing them to successfully understand the process to enter international markets and attend international tradeshows.

Task 1- Learn and fully comprehend the Export, Country Market and Tradeshow Participation guides and subsequent PowerPoint decks

The Consultant will be responsible for acquiring a comprehensive understanding of content found in the above-mentioned best practice guides provided by the Activity, and the PowerPoint deck. The Consultant will also be required to fully understand and have the capability to operate the PowerPoint deck detailing the guide's content. To facilitate these learnings, the consultant will be directly mentored by the creator of the above-mentioned best practice guides and corresponding PowerPoint deck and will be walked through every intricacy of the documents. The author of the guides will be available for minor questions throughout the Consultant’s time with the Activity, but the Consultant will be expected to develop sufficient knowledge on the subject to teach all material found in the best practice guide and PowerPoint deck to individuals with no previous export experience.

Task 2- Deliver a training session on the Export, Country Market and Tradeshow best practices guide in PowerPoint

The Consultant will deliver the Burmese version of the PowerPoint deck to local Myanmar businesses seeking to become export capable and export ready business over multiple training session. The Consultant will also remain available over the course of one year to be contacted via phone, email or in person for Q&A regarding the three guides' best practices.

Task 3 - Provide bespoke services and practical support

The consultant will provide on a need's basis bespoke services and practical support that meet the unique requirements of each individual business to deliver maximum benefit and that will lead to international business growth. The service delivery will be at the request of either the Activity, individual business or association.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business, Trade and Development, or a related field
  • Advanced degree in Business, Economics, Trade and Development is desirable
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in international trade, trade show facilitation (project management), business development and/or export strategy development. (10 years if do not meet the academic qualifications)
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of quality and impactful capacity building training to the private sector in the areas of international trade, tradeshow facilitation (project management), export strategy development
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing ability
  • Experience in research, writing reports and/or guides is highly desirable
  • Private sector experience is a plus, especially in Myanmar
  • Fluency in English
